Milan travel tips

Milan is one of world fashion capitals and the Italian industrial business center. It's one of the biggest Italian cities with its population of 1,3 million. The annual amount of visitors in Milan is even bigger than in Venice or Florence - other popular Italian destinations.

Milan has a long history and many monuments of its past still adorn the city. Milan is a big metropolis now, but the most of the ancient monuments are concentrated in the city center. The city's concentric design is split into four squares: Piazza Duomo, Piazza Cairoli, Piazza Cordusio and Piazza san Babila.

Milan 's Duomo is the world's fourth-largest church. This magnificent Gothic church is the symbol of the city. The other interesting churches in Milan are the ancient Basilica of Sant'Ambrogio, Pinacoteca di Brera and the Cenacolo Vinciano.

Milan 's art galleries, many of which are housed in former palaces, are home to many significant artistic works. For example in Milan you can see Leonardo da Vinci's "Last Supper".

Apart from the city center, another area you should pay attention to is the Brera with its posh galleries and fashionable shopping streets. It's located just north of the Duomo,.

Milan is world-known for its Opera. The famous La Scala was opened in 1778. It is still considered to be the real temple of opera music. To perform on this stage is a great honor and the dream for all opera singers. La Scala opens its opera season on 7 December - the Festa di Saint Ambrogio. Saint Ambrogio is the patron saint of the city and the 7 December is the biggest holiday in Milan .

Milan is very stylish city where shopping is almost religion. "I bought this dress in Milan " - this phrase emphasizes that you are expert in fashion and style. On Via Montenapoleone you'll find a lot of prestigious boutiques. Via della Spiga and Via Sant'Andrea are other elegant streets that together with Via Manzoni, Via Borgospesso and Via Santo Spirito are the borders of the famous Fashion Quadrilatero. That sounds strange, but sometimes you can buy prestigious clothes there cheaper than anywhere else!

Milan is the ideal setting for international fashion events. Men's Fashion collections are presented in January, but the most important events are the ones dedicated to women's fashion: in the months of February and March and September and October, the autumn/winter and spring/summer collection for the next year are presented. In Milan they even have The Chamber of Fashion!

Italian food is something everyone should taste! Typical food from Milan 's traditional cuisine: from risotto to panettone that must be tried while visiting Milan .

There are hundreds and hundreds of bars, lounge bars, wine bars, pubs, cafes, bistros, pubs, wine cellars, live music bars and lots of others besides.

The modern civic center lies around Mussolini's train station built in 1931. This area is dominated by skyscrapers and the Fiera district that stretches around Porta Genova station is the nub for trade and fashion fairs.
